iPhone 18 Pro three all new colors leak
Although the release of the iPhone 18 Pro is still some time off, first leaks indicate a stunning design change. Rumors suggest that Apple is “abandoning the basic space gray or black option” and that three warm tone colors will be included in the designs.
The so-called “next-gen” iPhones are not launching for another year, but early reports indicate that Apple plans to continue its design concept of brightening things up with bold, intense warm colors, instead of the tradition, muted tones of the iPhone 18 Pro.
iPhone 18 Pro
Apple is rumored to offer the iPhone 18 Pro in three new, rich colors, indicating a shift to a warmer shade palette. A leak from Weibo tipster Instant Digital notes the possible colors are Coffee, Purple and Burgundy (or “Wine Red”).
Coffee Purple
The “Coffee” color is characterized as a dark brown, possibly to replace apple’s warmer gold or rumored “desert titanium” color option. “Burgundy” is predicted to be a wine-like red with a brown undertone for a sophisticated look. “Purple” is expected to be subdued warm shade of purple, compared to brighter lavenders in the earlier models.
No black variant
While the rumored color palette for the iPhone 18 Pro may sound lovely, it presents a frustrating situation for longtime fans—Apple may be skipping a traditional black or Space Gray color option once again.
This follows a strategy Apple also implemented with the iPhone 17 Pro absence a dark gray option. It appears Apple intends to prioritize a warmer and more adventurous color palette to provide a sense of luxury and uniqueness to Pro devices.
That said, the brown, purple and dark red rumor doesn’t appeal to the market segment hoping for a straightforward black finish.
As is the case with all early rumors, Apple is likely still proving iPhone 18 Pro color options; thus, his report is still fluid. However, this leak indicates the company’s intention to favor colors that pop visually and have a uniqueness factor.
iPhone 18 Pro Debuting September 2026
The iPhone 17 Pro, recently made available in Silver, Cosmic Orange, and Deep Blue, already has potential competition in the color space. A leak out of China today seemingly confirms the anticipated color options for the iPhone 18 Pro, which will launch in September 2026, are Coffee, Purple, and Burgundy, and the unconfirmed colors are displayed in the speculative photo below.
If this leak holds true, it will also confirm we will not see Apple return to offering the iPhone in black or white, which is bold and maybe even risky, but Apple feels this is the right strategy.
As far as the new colors go, a version of purple has been available in every model of iPhone since the iPhone XR through the iPhone 14 Pro. However, a Coffee or Burgundy would be the first time the iPhone has models of this color, which would make me excited to see these colors if these rumors go true.
iPhone 18 Pro Camera Specifications
A noted leaker, who has a solid reputation in the area of iPhone camera specifications noted that the iPhone 18 Pro will feature a variable aperture lens, which has never been used in any iPhone before. What we still don’t know is whether both the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max will feature this variable aperture lens, or possibly just the Pro Max.

Lenses with variable apertures
The main advantage, which we discussed at length in our last article, is that they improve control over the photo’s depth of field (DoF). This control allows you to have a shallow DoF to isolate your subject, a medium DoF to isolate your subject while still allowing the background to be recognizable, or a deep DoF when you want everything in the image to be sharp.

Portrait mode offers a shallow depth of field with a simulated effect, and the telephoto lens offers some optical effect as well, but a variable aperture would establish a more full-on example of how it works consistently and quickly. It would also benefit filmmakers shooting at 24fps in bright sunlight.
New leak from Digital Chat Station
After Ming-Chi Kuo’s report first described plans for the iPhone 18 feature, a supply chain report confirmed it, along with leaker Digital Chat Station (DCS), who also uses supply chain sources to leverage their information.
According to supply chain info, Apple will take the separation of the Pro models in the iPhone 18 series further. The reports are that the Pro Max will also add a variable large aperture, and the 48MP telephoto will also have a larger aperture.
DCS has accurately leaked before, predicting the telephoto lens on the iPhone 16 Pro and the larger sensor in the main camera.
It is not clear if it is one model or two
The original report Kuo released was somewhat hazy, mentioning a high-end iPhone 18, but not which one.
In 2026, the major upgrade for the high-end iPhone 18 will be the wide camera’s move to a variable aperture lens, which will drastically improve the photography experience for users.
A recent report from the supply chain now suggests that the feature would be available on the Pro and Pro Max models.
Meanwhile, both the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the premium models of the series, have been confirmed to feature a variable aperture for the main cameras.
DCS refers to Pro Max specifically.

As we said before, this move will not be a game changer all alone.
iPhone cameras have wide apertures, but their small sensors mean you won’t get as much control over depth of field as you would with a DSLR. And instead of a big benefit being an ability to widen the aperture, the larger benefit would be the ability to narrow the aperture to keep an entire scene, top to bottom and side to side, in focus for photography styles like landscape and cityscapes.
Nevertheless, this development gives me greater optimism for larger sensors in future iPhones. Doing a variable-aperture lens is not straightforward or cheap, and so, it could indicate more epochal visions for the overall camera system.
This indicates Apple’s intention to improve depth of field control, and the variable aperture may only be one aspect of the solution. A better sensor would give the biggest enhancement in image quality, and while challenging with a thin phone body, even a small increase in the sensor size would have a significant improvement.
This appears to be something that Apple is working toward, even if a better sensor isn’t available next year. If it does arrive, I’d expect to see it offered in the Pro Max model as the best option for a more significant component.
